Ben Jensen loves to dance, sing, be in nature, eat delicious food, and spend time with community. He first attended Play in the Wild!’s Artistry of Peace Revolutions Retreat the summer before his senior year of high school in 2016. He has since continued on to participate in a Canoe Quest in 2017, as well as joining the Wild! Kids Team in 2017 and 2018. The Artistry of Peace Revolutions Retreat was Ben’s first introduction to Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and, to use his words, “it just makes sense”. He was fascinated by the concept of Universal Human Needs, and wanted to integrate it into his daily life. He continued learning NVC by living it, making it his day-to-day practice. Ben has also traveled through India and Sri Lanka with LeapNow, a gap year program. Traveling internationally with a group of 11 other human beings continued to show Ben the power of NVC. He spent three months of that year studying with an Ayurvedic doctor. During that time he discovered his passion for movement. He was inspired specifically by the practice of Yoga, one of the eight limbs of Ayurveda. He began his own personal practice of movement and meditation. Whether balancing on the slack-line, dancing, mowing the lawn, or being a human jungle gym, he is committed to bringing awareness through his body.
